From reading the text Road by Jim Cartwright we as a group interpreted ‘Road’ being a ‘coldy sack’. ... We did this by bringing in the audience right into the heart of the community by placing them carefully so they themselves formed the road which fanned out into the opening of the stage where most of the action takes place. ... The actor who played scullery (Kev) decided to light up the ‘Road sign’ with the use of a match light only. We as an audience can barley see the sign it’s self and to be told it is broken in a low monotone voice, creates the feeling that road is not a place you wish to visit and generates the sense that road is a human ‘hell hole’ of community.
