The Battle of Britain was the airborne conflict between British and German air forces. The battle was fought in the skies over the United Kingdom during the summer and autumn of 1940. The Battle of Britain could be considered one of the most influential and important moments in 20th century Britain history and a turning point of World War II. During June of 1940, with the Battle of France still happening, Luftwaffe, the German air force, used only a small part of forces for active operations against the United Kingdom. The main objectives were to disrupt civilian population, put a halt to United Kingdoms industry, give troops flying experience over the British Isles, practice new ways of navigation, and reconnoiter airfields, which means to explore. The raids lasted through July when larger amounts of bombers started attacking south coastal ports including Portland, Dover, Falmouth, Weymouth, and Plymouth. Luftwaffe had attacked the British shipping fleet since the beginning of the war. The biggest and most persistent action of the war took place on July 10, the Battle of Britain was declared by the British. On August 12, the Luftwaffe began a logical assault on radar stations and advanced on fighter airfields.
