Hi, my name is Terry. I am friends with two men, Jeff and Van. We just recently traveled through the "feminine utopian" town of Herland. We started out journey having no intentions of seeing what we did. I do know one thing though, and that is what I saw was not a utopia, in any sense of the word. How could it be possible for a place with no sex, no diversity, and a great deal of racism be considered a utopia?
To many people the word sex simply indicates the act of intercourse. I'm not quite sure what this word means to Charlotte Perkins Gillman. If sex to her is simply intercourse, then no, the women of Herland have no sex. Yet, if the word sex takes on a deeper meaning, then it is not up to us the audience to decide whether or not sex is actually present in the novel...
