“Canada Case History” 1) Free Verse - no rhyme scheme - no form 2) It is a free verse poem, there is not a conventional form. 3) -‘candy of course’ - Alliteration - helps develop rhythm -‘bright cheeks the gangling presence’ - Imagery -Helps readers develop a mental image of the character. -‘more like his father’ -Simile -Helps reader understand by showing comparison. -‘Uncle spoils him’ -Allusion’ -Gives an idea about the theme of the poem. 4) The main metaphor in the poem is the comparison of the boy to Canada as a whole. The boy is a small adolescent child while Canada is a large country. However Canada is young, like the boy, and goes through similar experiences. The poem is about how Canada is still developing as a country.
