Globalization has been the thrust of the modern world system since the end of the Berlin Wall and collapse of the Soviet Union. It has caused decline in the appeal of nationalism and devaluation of the process of nation-building around the globe. But nationalism is not dead nor become an irrelevant socio-political process in the human society. Despite the declining power of nationalism there is an increasing significance of nation-states. After all, the process of globalization hinges upon the inter-state for a variety of reasons. Thus, we are witnessing stressful times for all those who are caught between the dynamics of global integration and the imperatives of identity.
Globalization creates both winners and losers. There are many trends of thought regarding who the winners and losers may be, as well as what may be considered a prize or punishment (e.g. the availability of McDonalds fast food throughout France can be considered an enrichment and an unsavory invasion)...
