Dreams Shaped by Life
As people are born and reared they begin to develop a sense for life and what they would like to achieve as members of society for themselves and possibly their family. However, goals and dreams do not come without cost and sacrifice. Additionally, sometimes your ethnicity may play a role in what goals and dreams you are able to achieve. Unfortunately, society has been this way for years and years, however, more so then than now. Frankly, the bottom line and the message of this play is that dreams can be shaped by society's superficial standards.
"A Raisin in the Sun" is a great play that really made me picture each character and the overall setting, just from it's written presentation. As each act was presented it gave me the opportunity to put myself in the play and feel the mood of every situation and conversation. As the play went on I was really able to get a feel for each character, but found myself to really favor "Mama" out of the entire cast, for various reasons, but most importantly for her strength as an elderly woman and widow.
Throughout the play "Mama" did have her dreams and goals, even at her age and as a widow, but she always managed to stay focused on the reality of every situation. "Mama" was tired of living in their small two bedroom flat that was run down and just simply did not have enough space for the entire family...
