Wagner, who “regarded himself as ‘the most German on men,’ the ‘German spirit’ is not only known because of his 13 operas and numerous other compositions but also because of his inevitable influence on our understanding of German culture and history” (Salmi). Wagner’s is one of the most influential people of the 19th century as well as on of the most controversial. He was born in Leipzig, Germany in 1813 to Johanna Rosine Wagner and the police actuary Carl Friedrich Wagner, although the latter falls up some speculation. ...
