Dario Fo
Form and Structure
Dario Fo has used many techniques to produce 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist'. The genre of this play is farcical and so mass exaggeration and clowning around can be expected as the play takes a poke, not necessarily deliberately, at established theatre.
One form or theatrical technique that is used to convey Fo's ideas is that of satire. He uses this in both the language of characters and in his political views that are portrayed during the play. Dario Fo satirises the government using witty language and acting through his characters to convey insults and scorn on the government and the events that happened on December 12th 1969. An example of this can be found on page 8 spoken by the maniac "And when I'm down there all sludgy on the pavement and doing the death rattle and be warned I shall take a long time to die and I'll be rattling a lot the journalists will be flocking round and I'll tell them, rattling away, that you pushed me!!". This is also, obviously, mocking the events that happened in the police station with the 'fall' of Pinelli. But the beauty of it is, while being sardonic and in some cases, disrespectful about the events, it still manages to keep the original idea there that this event was serious and that there was a lot of controversy surrounding it all.
Another technique, and probably the most obvious one used in 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist', is that of Farce..
