How to Prepare for the First Day of Deer Season
It's the most exciting event of the year; the first day of deer season. In anticipation of the hunting season I scout out my hunting grounds, scatter corn to attract the deer, assemble the stands in the proper locations, and acquire the proper gear from the local sporting goods shop. These are all vital to a successful season.
The first priority of scouting is to find the traveling paths of the deer. I anxiously wait for the evening haze in the days prior to deer season in order to ride the back roads of the woods to spot roaming deer that are in search of their evening meal. Each afternoon I continue to scout the deer until I know every move they are making from their bedding area to their feeding site. An even more effective way of tracking the deer would be to set up a motion sensitive camera in the area of the deer sightings to ensure this knowledge is accurate. This may seem expensive to those who do not know the joy of deer hunting, but never to the serious hunter.
The second step to drawing deer to my favorite hunting grounds, or "honey hole", is providing a food source. I set up corn feeders in open areas that are easily accessible...
