I have this journal beginning with French and Ravens Typologies of Power. Of these typologies I can see coercive power being used more often than reward power. Reward power is not used so much on capital hill as coersive. Where coercive a more blackmail type of power is used much more often. Which in my topic of interest is quite common, among the politicians. When negotiating among themselves they are not trying to reward each other unless it is their friend, they are more about manipulating to achieve their own goals or those of the interest/lobbyist group they are representing, whether it be environmental safety, representative of those corporations who build defense weapons, democratic party, etc.. Expert power is used more often today than it was in the past, where as referent power was a major determinant in hiring, firing, and promoting individuals.
