The Battle Over Tile IX
In 1972 President Nixon signed into effect Title IX. What exactly is Title IX, well it is a law which states that, "No person in the United States shall on the basis of sex, be excluded form participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." (Fair Game). This law has helped in getting female athletes more involved in collegiate athletics, as well as high school athletics too. The law says nothing directly about women's rights but has made an enormous impact on women's athletics.
I want my paper to positively affect the way people view Title IX. Many critics say that it has had a negative effect on men's sports. Henrietta Way says that guys have no room to complain when they have done away with Nebraska's wrestling team but they still have 201 guys on their football team. I do not think that men should be complaining because they have 200,000 competing in collegiate athletics while women only have 128,000 involved in collegiate athletics (Duff). The positive has definitely out weighed the negative in the topic of Title IX...
