"Conflict Resolution"
The dreaded debate fascinates many American's everyday. We love to argue, even though we know, deep down, that most arguments accomplish nothing. No matter, how tough someone tries, a person's opinion's is one of the hardest things to change. However, a lot is accomplished in one argument. For one, the ability to learn, a person's views might not change as a result of an argument, but at least they had a chance to learn something they didn't know earlier. On the other hand, with the Japanese concept of consensus, more can be achieved.
There are many pros to a debate, one of which, as previously stated, was the fact that a great deal can be learned from such. Even though, not much can be accomplished, through debates, many facts are put on the table. As a result, these facts are learned. It is just like Tannen quotes, "It will take creativity to find ways to blunt the most dangerous blades of the argument culture
