This paper will explain in detail the story "Sonny's Blues", and about the stories author James Baldwin. Some keys that make this a powerful story are the symbolism and the point of view used in the story. I will also discuss the plot, theme, setting and all of the other elements of Literature.
James Baldwin although a great writer experienced some criticism because of his sexual preference and because of the racial inequality that was so high around his time. "Baldwin began his career publishing novels and short stories (charters 83). In 1953, he wrote "Go Tell it on the Mountain" which he became highly known for. He moved to France and this was his permanent residence until his death from cancer in 1987. However, before his death he went on to right many other novels and stories. In 1957 he the most mind and soul touching story of African American struggles in our times, which took place in Harlem around the time when African American music and also drugs were on the rise.
"Sonny's Blues" is told in the first person point of view by Sonny's brother, whose name we do not find out...
