A Metaphysics of the Mosh Pit", is an article written by Mark Desrosiers that appeared in Pop Matters Columns. This article discusses Mark's experiences with mosh pits and mosh pit ethics. In the beginning of the article, Mark talks about the lack of mosh pits in some shows and the need to let the music take you and just mosh. He has found many people are thinking that mosh pits are uncool and as a teenage thing. He believes there is no greater insult to a band than people standing around motionless.
The majority of the article discusses the various mosh pits and the proper etiquette in them. The six types of mosh pits explained by Mark consist of "Cesspool of Manly Idiots", "Pit of One", "Skank Pit", "Pogo Pit", "Closer then Brothers(and Sisters)", and " The Brownian Sublime". The Cesspool of Manly Idiots is when one participant inflicts violence and revenge on the other moshers. This is the uncool version of moshing because it gets every one mad and people tend to concentrate on the violence around them then the music.
