Jay-Z's song, December 4th has an interesting introduction. It begins with percussion along with other instruments while his mother comes in and speaks about the day he was born. The opening is mostly percussion with a few instruments. When the melody is heard I would say it has narrow range because it is the same melody repeated over and over again with a few breaks. The melody moves by step. There are small intervals between the two adjacent tones on the scale. The melody pitches rise when Jay-Z emphasizes something important in his life and then fall when he raps about the down periods in his life. I would defiantly have to say that the melody of the song mostly moves by a stepwise motion with a little leaping mixed in and yes the motion reflects his tone throughout the duration of the song. The melody is bright and cheery even when he speaks of his troubles and when his mom has speaking lines throughout the song. The focal point is in three parts of the melody...
