2,500 years ago the Buddhist religion was founded upon the teachings of one of the greatest figures in human history. Born into the ruling family of the Shakya clan in Northern India, Prince Siddhartha was expected to someday takeover as king for his father. At the age of 29, Siddhartha quit the royal life after he had witnessed the extensive suffering and dissatisfaction in the world. He was then determined in finding a way in overcoming suffering. At the age of 35, sitting under a Bodhi Tree, Prince Siddhartha Guatama had finally achieved his goal. He had achieved the complete awakening of Buddhahood. Siddartha Guatama was both a real historical character and a mythical man of legend. Buddhism which is a major world religion originated in Northeastern India.
