There are misconceptions surrounding male - pattern baldness. Most people are alarmed after showering and noticing hair in the drain. It is important that we make the distinction that male - pattern baldness is not triggered by normal, everyday hair loss.
Hair loss happens to most men usually at middle age, but it can start at any time after puberty. Some men have loss of hair on top of the head, and only the sides and back of the head have hair. This is known as common baldness, androgenic alopecia or male-pattern baldness.
If you were to take a magnifying glass and study a balding scalp would show that there is the same number of hair follicles as before, but each are smaller, producing hairs that are fine, short and pale. There are three main factors at work in male-pattern baldness: male hormones, genetics and aging.
