In society today it seems everything is focused around sex. A person can not watch the television for a half hour without coming across one sexually focused show, commercial, or advertisement. Teenagers now are surrounded by sex all over TV. On MTV (Music Television) their shows, videos, and advertisements are 95 %( my opinion) sexually orientated and kids see this everyday. Sex is something that is going to happen with teenagers around the nation with or without parental permission. What are we doing as a nation to reassure that our kids, siblings, and friends are properly protecting themselves with sex?
In the past thirty years, the United States Supreme Court has extended the rights of minors to obtain contraceptives, and realize that though "parental involvement is desirable, many minors will remain sexually active but not seek services if they have to tell their parents." This extension also allows physicians to provide medical care to a mature minor without parental consent.
The state of North Carolina for example allows all minors to give their own consent to health services. This is a lot different than other states like New Hampshire where they decide if a person is a mature minor or not...
