Nicolaus Copernicus was a courageous and intelligent man that defied the Church and Science institutions of his day. He is best known for developing his theory that the Sun and not the Earth was the center of our solar system. The theory he developed is known as the heliocentric theory and brought many consequences and positive effects to society (O'Connor npag). Copernicus, who was born and educated in Poland, belonged to a noble family that helped and influenced him in his pursuit to the heliocentric theory (O'Connor npag). He studied many areas like law, medicine, and mathematics, and in 1512 he became interested in astronomy. Nicolaus Copernicus made a huge advancement in society for science and religion (Evans npag).
Copernicus had many positive and negative influences in his life such as his uncle paying for an expensive education and his father dying at the age of 10 that left a negative effect on him (O'Connor npag). He was born in Torun, Poland, Feb 19th, 1473 and died in Frauenburg, Poland, May 24th, 1543 (Helden npag). He grew up in a wealthy family and was able to obtain a good education (Helden npag). Copernicus attended university for nearly 13 years and possibly failed a few courses, which was common in that era (O'Connor npag)...
