Aside from the Bible itself, there are many sources that portray modified stories that appear in the Bible. An example of this is The Epic of Gilgamesh. This story contains a segment that can be compared and contrasted with that of Noah's Ark. Both the story in Genesis and the story in The Epic of Gilgamesh have their similarities and differences. Another aspect that can be compared and contrasted is that of the story of creation that appears in Genesis and also in Enuma Elish.
In the Book of Genesis, Noah is the man selected to perform the task of constructing an ark while in The Epic of Gilgamesh; it is Utnapishtim who is chosen to build the structure. In both stories, God has chosen to destroy all flesh on Earth by creating a worldwide flood. Noah and Utnapishtim are told to build a multi-story ark that would have many internal compartments for animals to be kept. In both accounts, the main character boards the ship, with several other humans and many different species of animals. However, in the Gilgamesh story, Utnapishtim brings with him all the craftsmen along with family, whereas Noah only brought his wife, his sons, and his sons' wives...
