Cisco systems implemented an ERP system that ended up saving the business and strategically positioning the company for success. John Morgridge hired a professional management team that knew when Cisco's core systems failed, it was time for major change and that meant investing in new technology.
A lot of companies might have failed if they lost their core systems, but Cisco Systems Inc. did a very nice job of recognizing the problem, figuring out the best solution, and finally implementing it. As soon as the problem was realized that the company's systems were legacy systems and that the company was on the brink of destruction, management put together a team of employees to integrate and change their old systems to a highly complex ERP system and to do that in only about 6 months.
The success of the implementation depended highly upon organization. They created conference room pilots for each step of the implementation. Each team had a specialized set of goals to complete, and all employees had to re learn how the company did business.
Cisco systems would not be around today if it were not for their quick problem solving skills and highly trained employees...
