The Life of David Gale is a suspenseful thriller in which the audience is kept asking "what is the truth". There is a focus on plot and character with some underlying political issues (capital punishment), which may be a moral or philosophical riddle. This film is composed in the same style as Out of Sight. It starts with a cliffhanger so the audience has to find out how they got there. Parker also incorporates the use to flashbacks so the audience can get a feel for who David (Kevin Spacey) really is.
The focus on plot starts out really simple and becomes more and more complex as the movie goes on. We start off finding out David a convicted murderer and rapist awaiting his execution on death row. He agrees to an interview with Bitsy Bloom (Kate Winslet) and this is how we find out more about David through the use of flashbacks. All the evidence is pointing at him but he starts to make the audience question if he is really guilty or not. David was one of the leading abolitionists against the death penalty and dedicated his life to try to find someone who was innocent and then executed...
