In April 1972, Jeanne visits Manzanar for the second and final time, with her husband and three children. She then realizes that her life began at Manzanar just as her father’s ended there. In the novel’s conclusion, Jeanne recalls her father driving like lunatic out of the camp in his blue Nash Sedan, and finally understands his stubborn pride.
