What utilitarianism is?
What decision is considered to be right? What is the moral action? These are the questions we always ask ourselves when we need to make a decision in any situation. People may have a thousand questions in their minds but no answers, so there has to be a principle that can guide humankinds' behavior. Therefore, utilitarianism comes in. According to John Stuart Mill, utilitarianism is an ethical theory which claims that morality of an action is determined by how well it promotes "utility"; and utility is defined as the greatest good for the greatest number (361). People can rely on utilitarianism to define whether their actions are moral or not.
