There were many scenes throughout The Thin Man that would illustrate the combination of high society with the criminal underworld. At Nick and Nora's Christmas party, there was a mixture of society and criminal. Such as the many wealthy friends that the couple both knew and the many convicts that Nick seemed to have apprehended throughout him career. Another scene in the movie were this mixture was prevalent happened when Nick and the "Gritty Detective" questioned the man who supposedly witnessed the murder of Wynant's Mistress. Nick who has become High Society himself, has to go to this mans house were he lives with his wife in a small run down apartment. He also has to witness the couple fight because the mans wife decides to leave him. This type of situation would probably not occur in High Society while guests were in their home. Nick himself used to be a lower class private detective, who mingled with criminals, now through is marriage to Nora he is a member of Society. Finally, during the climactic dinner party both classes are represented at the table. With wealthy guests suspected of the crime, as well as, the less fortunate seated at the table...
