To a student who is majoring in business like me, Cultural literacy: What Every American needs to know?, which is written by E. D. Hirsch, Jr., may raise up another argument. Hirsch supports that student must know a large number of people in history, elements of literature literacy and mythic heritage; but in my point of view, students in business do not need to know in detail this kind of literacy to have a good communication skill, especially in the aspect of writing a business letter. Clearly, cultural literacy is an important part of education that everybody should be taught; however, the main purpose of education is providing enough knowledge and skills for students to perform well in their job.
