A Chocolate Lover's Paradise
As a child growing up I guess my first memory of chocolate was that of a child at about 4 or 5 years old, and either my mother or grandmother gave me some chocolate milk and I've been hooked on chocolate every since. As children my sister and I were in charge of making the Sunday dessert and our choices for most of the Sundays was chocolate cake and on those Sundays we were a big hit. According to Merriam-Webster's School Dictionary chocolate is defined as a food prepared from ground roasted cacao beans, also a beverage of chocolate in water and milk and last but not least a candy with chocolate coating. Being in a chocolate lover's paradise I will give you a history of chocolate, I will introduce you to some healthful facts about chocolate, and I will tell you about some books and films about chocolate.
Now I will take you back in time about 2,000 years to discover how chocolate first originated. Let's travel back in time to the period of 250-900 (A.D.) a group of people known as the Maya took a cacao tree from the rainforest and grew it in their own backyards. They harvested it, fermented it, roasted it, and then they grounded it into a paste. They took the paste and added spices such as water, chile peppers, and cornmeal...
