Gay in the Military: Fighting for our country
and the right to love the same sex
It is not uncommon these days to see two people of the same sex in a relationship. You can turn on the television and see shows such as "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy". It seems to me that it has become more acceptable to be gay. Behind closed doors though, such as a militant enviroment , things like homosexuality are shunned. Why does it seem okay for someone to die fighting for our countrys freedom, but not alright to love someone of the same sex in an sexual way? Obviously the Government has appointed themselves the right to do so.
On July 19th, 1993, the Commander in Chief announced his decision on a policy for homosexuals in the armed forces. (Unclassified) In this new policy one key element included:
"The dod has long held, as a general rule, that homosexuality is incompatible with military service. Even so, we recognize that homosexuals have served in the armed
forces sometimes with distinction not because they were homosexuals, but because
they were able to conform their behavior to the constraints of military service." (Unclassified)
Why is homosexuality thought to be incompatible with military service?..
