THE CONTENDER
When deciding on which movie to watch I went to Blockbuster Video to decide, yet all they had was The Contender, so that is the one that I chose to do my paper on. Overall, I am glad that I did because it turned out to be a very good movie. In this paper I would like to tell you a little about how I related it to our class, then discuss what I thought about the subject matter, and then what I thought overall about this entertaining and enlightening movie.
First thing I would like to mention is that I really liked how this movie followed what could really happen in the executive branch of our government. I do believe that a Democrat in the office of president placed in this position of trying to fill a vacancy for a vice president might just pick a woman for that highly regarded position. Which brings me to the part of the movie that deals
with Advise and Consent. This is where the United States House of
Representatives have to give the approval of who ever the president chooses for that position.
From here, the movie goes into what we talked about in class, where the House of Representatives chooses a committee to decide if the candidate for the office of the vice president is worthy to hold that office. Of course, since the House of Representatives has a Republican Majority, the major part of the committee is Republican. I know of one Democrat on this committee, who was Webster, played by the Actor Christian Slater...
