opic 1. Discrimination toward women in Taiwan's job market
To achieve gender equality and realize the spirit of the EEO, the employer should take more firm position to eliminate discrimination towards women. I have the following suggestions:
- To set up minimum wage system, in order to protect the reasonable return for women workers and to narrow the discrepancy between female and male workers.
- To formulate legal restriction on age (of women) discrimination. And to review and set up mechanism to assist new arrived women in understanding their own rights.
- To reconsider the Comprehensive Retirement Scheme which also protect the late life of working women and housewives.
- To formulate legal protection on full pay for maternity leave of women workers. To increase the childcare and elderly services.
As I said in the topic page, in my personal working experience, among the employees in my department, it's not hard to find an experienced female who can handle all the issues come to her and the outcomes are just as good as a male manager dealt. In a matter of fact, they sometimes handle things better than a male manager...
