The show I went to on March 17th, in El Paso, TX was a Punk-Rock show featuring Manic Hispanic. Manic Hispanic came together in the early-1990's as part of a work release program. The idea was formed by Orange County Probation Officer Freddie Gomez, "I thought if I could keep these guys on a stage, they would stay out of trouble on the streets." Now, instead of a life of lock downs and orange jumpsuits, they are now playing sold out shows and busting out jokes. The seven members of the band are El Jefe (Vocals), El Hokie Loco (Guitar), Tio (Vocals), Huesos (Vocals), Oso (Bass), Chino (Drums), and Mo Grease (Guitar). They take the punk songs that they love but they add a large dose of barrio humor. Many of their songs are parodies of popular punk songs. These guys are the punk equivalent of Weird Al Yankovic.
The audience at the show was a bit different than many of the punk rock shows I have been to. The first noticeable difference was the presence of barrio gangsters...
