Slavery played a major role in 1800's. Many people in the south had slaves, whereas in the North no one had slaves. In the South, Slaves were bad mistreated. Many of the blacks did not like being a slave. Many slaves went against their masters, they were not allowed to learn about the real religion of Christianity, and they were not allowed to educate themselves. Many slaves expressed how miserable they thought these issues were through songs, poems and stories. They also hid their true meanings through symbols and metaphors.
Many slave owners did not have any respect for their slaves. They would treat them horribly. Often the slaves would take revenge against their masters...
