For the past few decades, one of the major problems in the China has been the issue of Human Rights. The strict definition of Human Rights is any basic right or freedom to which all human beings are entitled and in whose exercise a government may not interfere. This includes rights to life and liberty, as well as freedom of thought and expression and equality before the law. There have been many instances where the idea of Human Rights has been brought to question. One of the most significant examples of this is the Tiananmen Square Massacre that took place in 1989. To some people, mainly Westerners, this was a clear violation of Human Rights. But to the Chinese government, and other communist governments around the world, this event took place simply to keep order. This debate has been going on for many years now, and people are wondering if things have gotten better in China since this fateful day. In order to find this out, one must view the situation from the perspective of a Westerner and protestor at the time, and one must also look at it from the Central Party's viewpoint.
