King Harold ruled the country of England after the death of King Edward. Harold was a well liked by the English people. He had brought most of the peace to the country. He was very educated, piest, and believed strongly within the church. During the reign of Edward, Harold "was the factual ruler of the country" (43). Because Harold's father Godwin wanted his family to secede to the thrown it enabled Harold to become Edward's closest advisor and next in line to the thrown.
Duke William of Normandy was a cruel ruler compared to Harold. He was abandoned when he was a young child and had to fight his way back to the thrown barbarously. He was brought up by war all of his life through a very rough childhood. Harold and William were both able to work under a similar feudal system...
