The Philosophical Implications of Adbusters in Modern Society
Adbusters is non profit magazine published in British Columbia and funded by Working Assets, Glaser Progress Foundation and Meredith Russell. All of these companies are known as socially responsible investors. Being a non profit magazine, it does not run any ads without a mocking alteration and is therefore, at least in conceptual presentation, free of corporate influence. Adbusters is a "journal of the mental environment." It deals with a variety of issues from politics, to the environment, to countless others. The ridicule of this corporate society and satire of modern material life is put forth with the intention of change. To put forth an idea of realization, we need to wake up and see we what the world around has really become. If we did this we would most likely be displeased with recent trends in our culture and society. In the magazine's own words: "Cultural Revolution is our business."
