I do believe that William Shakespears Othello is a tragedy. A tragedy is a play, story, or other literary work, which arouses terror or pity by a serious of misfortunes or sad events. The plot is usually about the downfall of a great man. A tragic hero must be a noble man, prince, or a person of high estate. In this case it's Othello that is such a wonderful great man. At the time, it was common for the Italian city-states to have a foreigner, with proven military capabilities, serving as the head of their army. Othello, an African Moor of noble birth, is just such a character and held the highest-ranking military position as Governor-General of Cyprus. A tragedy also says that the main character brings the tragedy among themselves because of some character flaws. Othello has too many character flaws.
