Plato's Communism is an essential part to what his notion of what the perfect republic is. It is important to note that what Plato means by communism is not the same as what we think of communism means today; the political left ideology of the government running and controlling everything. Plato's use of communism is better understood if the word used was communalism, but I am going to use communism to keep things consistent.
It was discussed in class the basic idea of this sub-community. The whole purpose of this separate community is to maintain ruling class coherence. This is a separate community where the next generation of guardians and auxiliary guardians will be raised. The members of this group are isolated from the rest of the community. The leaders of the sub-communities will assess the citizens of the main society and determine whether or not they have the potential of being guardians or auxiliary guardians, based on whether or not they contain gold or silver in their makeup.
Once admitted in to the community, a person's life is very controlled. For example, every spring, the males and females are paired up to have an orgy in order for them to reproduce children who too are made of gold or silver...
