After two whole moths, today, I write my correspondence from one of Egypt's most famous and most popular celebrations.. The so-called "Maulid" (birthday) of one of Islam's greatest personalities, Sayidna Al-Imam Al-Hussayn.
The reason my correspondence comes so late is that I got too busy in a couple of other Maulids which the Muslims celebrate, then applying for college and finally, a short but long-needed vacation in Egypt's north coast. Finally, I found the strength to start writing about the occasion.
For the past two years I have been attending the annual celebration of Sayyida Zainab's Maulid, also here in Egypt by her Shrine Mosque in the crowded Sayyida Zainab district. For those who don't know, Sayyida Zainab (A.S) is Imam Hussayn's sister, and they are both the grandchildren of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Seeing tens of thousands gathering up for the Sayyida's Maulid I couldn't imagine any other celebration to be more popular. But I was wrong..
