Every year more than 2 million Americans suffer from a traumatic brain injury and 75k000 of these individuals will experience permanent deficits as a result of their injury. The number one cause of head injury is due to car accidents, other causes include mororcyle and bicycle accidents, falls assaults, gunshot wounds, and child abuse (Love, 1997). Head trauma in children is a major public health problem. Traumatic brain injury is the leading cause of death, resulting in mental and physical delays, and may require on going supervision and assistance. Even a person who has suffered a head or brain injury, with little or no documented loss of consciousness, may have permanent deficits, which make it impossible for them to return to their previous lifestyle and realm of activities. Traumatic head injury can cause changes in thinking and reasoning, remembering things, behavior, and overall learning. With sever head trauma, often the individual has been in a coma for a long period. As a result, physical and cognitive delay or regression may occur. Intellectually, individuals with a head injury often have difficulties with language expression.
