The Family Unit
"Your family and your love must be cultivated like a garden. Time, effort, and imagination must be summoned constantly to keep any relationship flourishing and growing" (Jim Rohn). The idea of a family unit is slowly diminishing in today's society. There are very few examples of the family unit, however, throughout the entertainment business and so we as a people are constantly looking for a model that encourages the idea of family. When looking for a positive American family source, the television shows 7th Heaven and My Wife and Kids are excellent examples. Not only do they display the "normal" American family, but they also express the ideas of determination and loyalty that are needed in order to maintain families and family values.
7th Heaven, a television show on the WB, is a critically acclaimed family drama about a minister, his wife, and their seven children. The show focuses on the trials and tribulations of Eric and Annie Camden and their children Matt, Mary, Lucy, Simon, Ruthie, Sam and David, as they encounter many life altering situations. The young adults on 7th Heaven are exposed to issues ranging from teen suicide and sibling rivalry to violence in schools. No matter what the issue is, the Camden family stands behind each other, giving their full support to each other in every way possible...
