Alcohol is a part of the life experience of almost every teenager. Drinking is something a teenager can do that symbolizing celebration, adult status, and some degree of behavioral independence from parents. Since most adults also drink, adolescents may readily perceive their disapproval of teenage drinking as hypocritical. In this way, drinking may become an avenue for testing the limits of adult authority or for expressing behavioral autonomy for parental control.Alcohol consumption has become a social tradition in the lives of many teenagers. Although the legal drinking age in the U.S. is twenty-one, the majority of teenagers begin using alcohol during their teenage years. "Our society has come to accept and expect this practice.
