The Roman Empire grew for hundreds of years spreading knowledge and enlightenment throughout the empire until its fall. Towards the end of the Roman Empire the religion changed from a polytheistic religion to the monotheistic religion of Catholicism. With the fall of the Roman Empire the knowledge and enlightenment that was associated with it slowed almost to a stop. However the spread of the Catholic Church continued. The spread of religious information prevented this time from being a completely dark period in history, although the light of the Pax Ramona was not as strong as it had been during the years of the Roman Empire. The catholic religion continued to be the prominent religion in many parts of the former Roman Empire after its fall. England was one of the places that continued to study the catholic religion. We see the spread of religion in England through some of the literary works of the time, including plays. In some of the plays that were preformed there was an underlying message along with a religious surface. The play Everyman contained a message about morality...
