demobilization - Reduction in the size of the armed forces.
Fair Deal - Truman's domestic program, in the tradition of Franklin D. Roosevelt, wanted to create jobs, build public housing and end job discrimination against African Americans.
Taft-Hartley Act - This bill, overturned many rights won by unions under the New Deal. The bill outlawed closed shops but allowed the union shop [in which new workers had to join a union] if most workers voted for it. Also, the bill banned sympathy for strikes, plus, allowed states to pass right-to-work laws.
Dixiecrats - The States' Rights Democrats.

Thomas E. Dewey - The Republican's presidential candidate, New York Governor, the Republican's strongly believed that Dewey could defeat Truman in the presidential election.
