Motivation can be described as something that causes us to act the way we do at a certain time. The source of this feeling comes from internal sources reacting to a challenge and striving for a certain goal. Motivation is not something we can see, it is only an emotion that pushes us to our limits and farther to achieve a strong desire within us. Whenever we see an Olympic athlete train for 9 hours a day just to knock a couple seconds off of a running time, then we can conclude that the person training so hard is motivated by the possibility of bettering themselves.
Instincts, needs, and incentives are all a kind of motivation as well. Instincts are skills that are inherited from their parents, this kind of motivation is not acknowledged to have any effect on humans. On the other hand, instincts are found nearly everywhere in the animal kingdom. Needs can be classified in two ways: physiological and psychological.
