King Arthor

“They need you Adam, I need you. You are the only person who can help, do you realize how important you are to mankind?” Adam awoke in a cold sweat, for the third time this week he had this same dream of a too familiar old man. Adam stumbled down the stairs into the familiar setting of his foster father and foster brother lounging on the couch. Adam didn’t have time to lay around he had to first make breakfast for the three immediately then off to his chores, while his foster brother, Kalin, would be off to his various sports. Adam wasn’t the average fourteen year old. His father left his mother during her early stages of pregnancy, having no interest in her son she left him on the doorstep of the first house she came across. There lived a young man, Edger, and his eight year old son, Kalin, where his mother had left them also. Reluctantly, Edgar took Adam in. Adam hated living in that house, Kalin had the opportunity to everything and anything that he wanted, but Adam was to stay at home, on occasion allowed to carry Kalin’s items. It wasn’t Kalin who Adam couldn’t stand, Kalin wanted Adam to be involved, it was his father, Edger. Edger felt Adam a burden, and blamed him for it, he felt like Adam had to repay him, and by doing the chores he was. Kalin had the talent of an athlete, but had the brains of a newt. On the other hand Adam was just short f a genius, never having time for his studies. Years went by, Kalin doing what he wanted and Adam either stuck at home or doing the dirty work, everyday the same, until the eve of Adam’s fifteenth birthday. Kalin had a very important baseball game, and Adam happened to be his bat boy, he was in charge of carrying all of Kalin’s items. Being stuck in traffic, they arrived just in time for th game to start, with one colossal problem that would change Adam forever. Kalin’s team played out in the field first, as Kalin reached in his bag for his glove he realized that his mighty baseball bat was missing. “Oh no! It can’t be, where is my bat!” Kalin grunted under his breath, as he looked toward Adam. Knowing that his mistake would be blamed on Adam, he called him over. “Adam, I forgot my bat, you have to go get it for me, I can’t lose this game!” Without question or hesitation Adam began a mad dash to find a bat. He was too far from home to go all the way back to get it, so he ran into town knowing that the local sports shop would be open and willing to lend Kalin a bat. Taken by surprise he quickly noticed that none of the stores were open, everyone was watching the game. Sorrowfully, Adam began to walk back to the game with no bat. Shamed by his disappointment something caught the corner of his eye, it was a bat! “I can’t believe it!” Adam exclaimed with joy. He noticed that the name of the store was unusual, one that he had never heard of before, “The Excalibur, that sounds so familiar.” It looked like a display for the store, and without thinking twice he rushed over to it and pulled it out of the mound with ease. Hurriedly, he raced back to the baseball diamond where Kalin was awaiting his bat. “Oh thank you Adam you really saved me this time....wait! This isn’t my bat, wow it is heavy, how did you get it over here so quickly, where did you get it from?” Kalin remarked as he realized that the bat handed to him wasn’t his. “Yeah where did you get that bat Adam, I hope that you didn’t steal it! You now I can hardly afford you as it is, I can’t handle paying for your careless mistakes!” lectured Edger. “Boy, where did you get that bat?” “I didn’t steal it I promise!” Adam said, “It was in front of a store, and I forgot Kalin’s bat at home, I just wanted to help. I was going to put it back when he was done, I promise!” “Wait one minute, you say that you got that in front of a store?” one of Kalin’s teammates questions, “Was the name of this store Excalibur by chance?” “YEAH!
