Thesis: In order to succeed, businesses have had to adapt to workplace, technology and market changes in the global economy.
The world economies have changed drastically over the past three decades, especially towards the end of the twentieth century. It has become more competitive, and has been dominated by technology and technological growth, but most importantly it has become more global creating what we know today to be the global economy. Businesses in Canada have been greatly affected by these changes and most find it hard to succeed in this our relatively new global economy.
With the emerging of the global economy is the evolving of the workplace at large. Next to the global economy, the growth in diversity of the workplace has been the most widely discussed trend in the business world. Two major factors have contributed to the rapid increase in the labor force. The first is the increase in immigration to Canada. According to Statistics Canada, Canada's leading search engine for statistics, immigration to Canada has increased rapidly in recent years, thereby influencing and facilitating cultural diversity in our country and other countries as well. Businesses have become informed about the many different cultures surrounding them and have learnt how to deal with the differences in demographics, cultures and gender among other things; that is they have become more culturally aware in order to satisfy the vastly growing and diverse cultural mix of the workforce...
