I. At the turn of the century, an estimated 100,000 wild tigers lived in Asia alone. 100 years later, the tiger population had decreased by 95%, leaving around 6,000 tigers in the entire world. Out of the eight sub-species of tigers existing in 1900, only five remain today. (Status in the Wild, 2003)
II. Adult Bengal Tigers weigh up to 272 kg (Tigers, tiger pictures, information, tiger diet, tiger habitat, 2004) and the males can measure a full 10 feet long (from head to tip of tail). The black stripes on a tigers' coat provide camouflage in the cats' natural environment. The stripes on a tigers' face are like human fingerprints- no two patterns are alike. At six months, a Bengal Tiger can already weigh 200 lbs, and by 18 months of age, are completely self-sufficient.
