Mission San Antonio de Padua is located 60 miles southeast in a valley of the Santa Lucias Mountains. It was founded on July 14, 1771. The Mission was named after Saint Anthony of Padua. The Father in charge of the mission was Miguel Joseph Serra he was chosen to be President of the California missions. The Mission San Antonio de Padua was the third mission built in the 21 California mission chain. The mission was secularized in 1833 by the Mexican Government. During the period 1928 to 1984 the mission was turned back over to the Roman Catholic Church.
Daily life at the mission was the men went to work in the workshops or in the fields. The boys went to the classes. The women prepared meals, worked at weaving, making blankets and clothes; others made candles or wove baskets for use at the mission...
