While reading Rita Dove's "Daystar" you get a sense that it is about a mother who is bothered by something child related. After throughly reading the poem, you notice Dove uses much repetition of images. This leads you to a similar but more specific understanding of Dove's duties as a mother. Through imagery you can just sense how Dove is striving for a little time for herself, without having to worry about tending to her children. Although images are not necessarily always a clear cut image, Dove uses descriptive images to relay the main idea of the poem.
As you begin to read the poem, you come across the first stanza and it reads, "She wanted a little room for thinking: but she saw diapers streaming on the line, a doll slumped behind the door." (1-3) From these first three lines she (though images) paints a picture in your head. At this point you picture a woman standing outside upon a backyard. The backyard has clothes line with a diaper on it.....
