Johann Sebastian Bach was one of the greatest and most productive composers in the history of Western Music. He is often referred to as a Musical genius because of his mastery of composition, in which he was able to create a fusion of technical mastery with emotional depth. Bach created masterpieces in every form of music during the Baroque period (1600-1750), excluding operas, and more than 1,000 of his compositions survive today. "Albert Schweitzer, who was world-renowned a musician, ethical philosopher, and humanitarian of the early 1900s described Bach as the climax and end of Baroque music", which says a lot given the quality and quantity of music in that period.
Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach, Germany on March 21, 1685. He was the youngest son of John Ambrosius and Maria Elisabetha. A gifted child, Johann Sebastian would be influenced by art and music. His father, an organist and town musician, was the first person to teach Johann basic skills for string playing. At age 10 both of Johann's parents had passed away, leaving him orphaned to his elder Uncle Johann Christopher.
